Iraqi government to auction fourth licence

Iraq’s cabinet has approved plans to relaunch efforts to auction a fourth mobile licence, after its previous attempt in late 2015 proved unsuccessful. The cabinet ruled that a committee would be established – headed by the PM and comprising the finance minister and senior officials from the Communication and Media Commission (CMC), the Ministry of Communications (MoC), the ministry of higher education and the Federal Board of Supreme Audit (FBSA) – to oversee the sale and ensure that the process is transparent and that the most suitable applicant is selected. In a statement, the CMC noted that it had already engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to provide assistance with the tender.
